Downstairs, a long dining room table was set with places, as if guests were expected, yet one could see that guests were rare. It was show, all museum-like, saccharine, so sweetly sweet it might nauseate someone of earthier tastes. Maybe it was just too prissy, too feminine throughout. Maybe it needed an elk's head hanging in the recreation room. A big one right over there, looking vacantly over the room as if to say, which one of you did this to me? Antlers. Big antlers. Yeah that would help. But, in that case, the cushioned chair arm rest silken doilies would have to go. Colors, throughout, were all muted, another instance of holding back. There were no bright reds, although that could always be changed,. Yes, that would be changed. Then there was the back work room. If one didn't have the tools or the skill to bypass the sturdy and unusual locks on the thick solid oak doors, one would miss out on the contrast of the large work room to the rest of the household. Considerations of eye appeal had no place here. The work room was windowless. It had a no nonsense mix of high tech in an old fashioned and rather large hands on work shop. It had way more than average computer and computer driven equipment, layout tables with razors, cropping tools, pastes, laminating equipment, row upon row of hanging film negatives which made unexpectedly good kindling. The many drawers of photos, interesting photos, wouldn't have burned nearly as well without that help. In that regard, at least one of the fireplaces had a surprisingly good updraft for a house of old design. Computers can be cleaned out for use for more things than, say, image processing, if they are low formatted from time to time. It's slow, but this was as good a time as any to
